Laptops with integrated graphics chipsets are great for handling day-to-day tasks such as surfing the web, reading documents, and playing video games. With some expensive gaming laptops costing in excess of £1,000 and also requiring large amounts of space on a desk, laptops with dedicated graphics cards offer both values for money and portability. To use a dedicated graphics card in your laptop you need to change the display output settings from the default ‘Integrated’ to ‘Discrete’.
Steps How To Change Laptop Display To Nvidia
Most laptops come with two graphics cards: one integrated and one dedicated. The integrated card, usually an Intel HD Graphics GPU, is used for basic tasks such as surfing the web and playing video files. The dedicated card is powered by Nvidia or AMD and is generally more powerful than the integrated card. If you’re a gamer, you want to use the dedicated card. Here’s how to set your laptop to use it when needed.
Click Start > Control Panel > Hardware and Sound, and then click Nvidia Control Panel.
Click Manage 3D settings.
Click the drop-down menu under Select a program to customize: and click the game or program you want to change settings for.
Click the Settings tab, and then click Specify the settings for this program.
Select any of the following options to change how the program uses your NVIDIA GPU:
Run with graphics processor – Choose which GPU to use.
Power Management Mode – Set how much power your GPU receives when running that application.
Texture Filtering – Quality – Select Quality if you want high-quality filtering, but at a higher performance cost. Select Performance if you want lower quality filtering, but at a higher performance benefit.
Tip: You can also access most of the NVIDIA Control Panel features from the NVIDIA icon in the Windows system tray. Click to expand the information about control if it is available.
How To Change Laptop Display From Amd To Nvidia
Go to Nvidia Control Panel > Manage 3D Settings and in the Global Settings tab, select “High-performance Nvidia Processor” as the Preferred graphics processor. Done.
That’s a simple way. The complicated way is changing your BIOS to use the NVidia card for the display. But that’s a waste of time and power since it will decrease battery life and increase temps.
It should be noted that you may need to install new drivers from Nvidia’s website if you haven’t already done so. Also note that this will only affect games and applications, not your general desktop (such as Chrome or Windows Explorer). Running apps like HWMonitor will show that both GPUs are being used, but only the NVidia one will generate heat because it is handling the graphical heavy lifting.
