The laptop can be a great asset to your workstation. If you have a laptop that has the capability of being used as a second monitor, then this is an excellent way to extend your desktop space.

One advantage of using the laptop as a second monitor is that it is mobile and allows you to bring your workspace with you when needed. Another advantage is that if one screen goes out, the other will still function.

How can I use my laptop as a second monitor with HDMI?

If your laptop has an HDMI port, you can use an HDMI to VGA or DVI adapter to connect it to a monitor. The adapter will convert the digital signal from the HDMI port to an analog signal that the monitor can understand. Once the adapter is connected, open the DisplayLink driver and click on the “Auto-Install” button.

This will automatically detect the external monitor and install it for you. Then, open your preferred browser and navigate to your DisplayLink page where you can change the settings of your monitors.

Once this is done, you can set up different desktops for each monitor or just use one desktop that spans both screens. If there are any problems with installation or setup, do not hesitate to call the DisplayLink customer service department for assistance.

After using my laptop as a second monitor, the screen looks stretched. What should I do?

This is an easy fix! If your OS allows you to adjust the scaling of your monitors, then open it and adjust them accordingly. You can find this option under the “Screen Resolution” settings on most OS platforms.

If adjusting your OS settings does not work, try restarting your laptop first and then calibrating the external monitor’s resolution by right-clicking on the desktop and selecting “Screen Resolution.” This should fix any screen stretching issues.

What if I don’t have an HDMI port?

If your laptop only has a VGA or DVI port, then you will need to get a USB to VGA adapter or a USB to DVI adapter. You can find these adapters for under $20 at many popular online retailers like Amazon and eBay. Once you have the adapter, just plug it into your USB port and connect an HDMI cable to the adapter.

This will give your laptop’s VGA or DVI port HDMI capabilities. You can then use this second monitor with all of the same instructions above.

Can I use my laptop as a second monitor with a wireless connection?

Yes! you can use your laptop as a second monitor wirelessly. However, the image quality may not be as good as when the laptop is connected to an HDMI cable. To use your laptop as a second monitor wirelessly, connect an HDMI cable to the laptop and the LCD display.

Next, turn on the wireless feature on your laptop and the LCD display. Once they are both turned on, you should be able to see the image from your laptop on the external monitor.

If you are having trouble getting the image to show up, try adjusting the resolution of your external monitor or turning off the energy-saving features on your LCD display.

Can I use my laptop as a second monitor with a Mac?
